NESSA Weekly Update

Great action this past weekend on many fronts.

1) Team Racing: Multiple team races were held over the course of the past two weeks and the 2019 rankings are coming into focus, now that the coaches' pool has been added to the computer rankings.  Scores for consideration will be accepted up to sundown on Sunday May 12, 2019.  It would be wise for all coaches to check the posted data and report any inaccuracies to me.

2) Girl's Championship: On Sunday, three Herreshoff qualifiers were held and the field is now set for the finals at Bowdoin College on Saturday May 11-12, 2019.   Congratulations to all the schools who competed this weekend for the opportunity to move on.

Schools attending the finals should check the NOR and note especially the late report time on Saturday.

3) State Champs and other regattas: As details for other regattas get finalize, please send me the info, so it can be posted on the website, which acts as an archives of all action in the district.  Furthermore, if results can be posted on TECH Score, it really helps to create an accurate record of what we do in New England and nationally.

NB: there was no S10 e-mail sent out last week.

Heading towards the O'Day this weekend, here are some details to observe.

1. TWO MEET/REGATTA THRESHOLD: To compete in the O'Day, your school must reach the 2 meet or regatta threshold as outlined in the District Rules.  I have updated the O'Day Site Assignments to reflect what is posted.

Green means 2 or more meets are recorded
Yellow means only 1 meet is recored
No color means nothing is recorded.
  • Results from two meets or regatta must be files with my office prior to competing on Saturday.  If there are results out there, including regatta results not posted on Tech Score, please forward them asap.
  • The deadline to withdraw from the regatta without penalty is 0830 on Thursday April 11, 2019.
  • The list of schools on probation is  attached.  Schools on that list need to be mindful of the  NESSA District Rules

2. ROSTERS & TECH SCORE: All schools competing this weekend should make sure that (a) their roster is accuarte and (b) that their Tech Score Account is operational.  Both of these should be done by sundown on Thursday to ensure that issues that involve help from the ISSA National Office in California can be sorted out in a timely manner. Saturday morning will be too late.  Inaccurate or incomplete Race Participation  (RP) information is  a 20 pt penalty/ per division.

3. PINNIE & PFDs: Failure to wear team pinnie and/ or proper USCG approved PFDs can result in big team penalties too.  Coaches, this is on you.  Don't let your kids down.

4. SIs, ROTATIONS, & OTHER RACE DOCUMENTS:  All this will be posted on Tech Score.  Look there first or  contact your individual regatta chair with individual question for that venue.

Good luck to all teams this weekend.

O'Day Regatta Update

1) The NESSA VPs have posted the 2019 Site Assignments for the O'Day trophy on the O'Day regatta page (they are also attached to this e-mail).

2) Host sites will start building their Tech Score accounts for their qualifying regatta soon.  Once build, they will have
a) SIs
b) Logistical Info for each site
c) other important info
That is where you can find all the information regarding your specific regatta.

3) All schools are reminded of their following responsibilities in accordance with NESSA District Rules.

a) Article K, section d:  Schools must sail at least three (amended to two for 2019 ONLY) scheduled meets or regattas prior to the championship between two or more schools in the season that the championship is being held (fall or spring)

c) Article M- Trophy Winner Responsibilities:  Tabor is responsible for bringing the O'Day trophy

d) ISSA/NESSA database must accurately reflect team's roster.  That must be done at least 24 hours prior to the qualifying regatta to give the database time to "shake hands" with the Tech Score database.

Further questions regarding this regatta should be directed to the individual regatta chairs and/or the NESSA VPs (Contact info can be found in the NOR).

NESSA Weekly Update - Scores

The 2019 NESSA Team Racing Standings page is posted.  It can be found on the NESSA Website under RANKINGS.

There you will find four important links.
1) Directions on who/how to post your scores.  Some important considerations:
  • If your school has registered to be considered for the NESSA Teams (President's and Terk), then reporting scores is a must.
  • If your school has registered for the O'Day or the Herrershoff, submitting scores helps verify that you have met the 2-meet/regatta rules for eligibility to compete.
  • If however, you just want to report your scores, you are welcome to do that too.

4) And eventually Team Racing Rankings Sheet.  This document will not be posted for a few weeks.

More to follow, I am sure.  Finally, registration for all three NESSA Championships (O'Day, Herreshoff, and Teams) closes on Monday April 1, 2019 at 2359 hours.  Here are the links to each site so you can check your status.  If you need to pay regatta fees, here is the NESSA PayPal Link.

1. On a related note to high school sailing.
There are a few Level-1 Instructor Courses being offered in the District (or close by) over the April school vacation week.  I know how quickly some of these courses fill up in May/June and how difficult it is for some aspiring instructors to find one that is close by and does not interfere with the myriad of other things going on at that time of year.  The April School Vacation week might be a good alternative for some.

Here is the link to the US Sailing  Educational Calendar.

Small Boat Instructor Level 1 at Sail Newport  4/13/2019   -   4/16/2019

Small Boat Instructor Level 1 at Cedar Point Yacht Club
4/13/2019   -   4/16/2019
Small Boat Instructor Level 1 at Cedar Point Yacht Club  4/13/2019   -   4/16/2019

Small Boat Instructor Level 1 at Annapolis Yacht Club

2. Registration for the O'Day and Herreshoff are not complete until yoru regatta Fees are paid.  Not paying your fee in the timely manner could jeopardize your fist choice site selection.  NESSA PayPal link is the quickest and easiest manner to make a payment
